How much driving experience do you need before you make a long drive?

Question:
There's a concert that I really want to go to in April; however, the concert is in Austin which is 3 hours away from where I live. And by April, I will have only had 2 mos. driving experience. Is it too dangerous to risk it?

Answers:

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

I wouldn't say it's too dangerous. Highway driving is pretty much the easiest driving anyway. Just be alert and attentive and play it safe. It will be good experience. Just remember that the right lanes are for slower drivers and the left lanes are for faster drivers and to always pass on the left.

Does anyone use the TTC bus bike racks?? And how long does it take to get it on an off the rack?

Don't do it. By the time you get out of the concert you'll be tired and really 2 months of driving experience is not enough time to just be able to hop in the car and go without thinking. Plus the distance alone will hurt unless you are use to driving great distances. My suggestion is this. Get one of your parents to go with you on a long drive. Nothing long just about 2 hours round trip nothing but driving. See how you feel when you get out of the car. Plus this way if you can't do it an experienced driver is there to take you home..

When you are static in traffic does it count toward you average speed?

Sorry, but if you are asking the question, you are too inexperienced a driver to do it ... FYI, it's not 3 hours away, it is 6 hours away, since you still have to come home. That is way too far on so little experience, unless you stay overnight at a hotel. An idea is to take Mom or Dad with you ... you drive the whole way in, they start driving when you get to the city, they drop you off at the concert then pick you up a couple blocks over afterwards, and you both take it to a hotel for the night.

What to do?

2 months driving exp is still to new on the road to be driving 6 hour round trip i would wait til like 6-7 months to play it safe road trips take lots of skill after the first hour and a half
