I know since 9/11, Restrictions on photographing certain Subway Systems, Commuter Rail lines, and Light rail lines in the United states and other countries have been imposed in the name of security.

Anything that can be seen in normal pedestrian areas can be photographed. You cannot go into a tunnel to take pictures without permission from the Transit Authorities. If you are caught trespassing, you will face misdemeanor and/or felony charges. Check with your local transit agency.
