The thing that always gets me about the gas situation is this: in 1926 it cost 11 cents to pump a barrel of oil and 78 cents to process one gallon of gas. Today with all of our technology it still only costs 11 cents to pump a barrel of oil and only 18 cents to process one gallon of gas. According to statistics put out by the U.S. government there are somewhere near 7 trillion barrels of oil in the shale in the Rocky mountains and with the new tech it is easier to process one barrel of oil from the shale than it is to pump a barrel from the ground. Now if there is enough oil to last; even with inflation and a tripled population; why are we paying so much for gas at the pump? This is the question you should be asking your congressperson or state senator. Have fun researching.In some places yes.

Any thing's possible Tess. Oil speculation has become a big business since it deregulated in 1999 and this has driven prices up. This is the the real culprit, not Iran or any other factor that the news brings up. Demand has been only up 1 or two percent a year since then and the oil companies have closed refineries to keep the price up. The demand is also very inelastic as many families have little choice on how many miles they drive. I've cut mine to less than 6000 a year; but will have to start doing more in the near future.Should I use my personal vehicle for company use?
Does it really matter? Maybe if gas had kept up with the cost of everything else in the world we would have had cars that got 100 MPG years ago - or better yet no fossil fuel at all!If it bothers you, sell your SUV.
