Advice on scooters?

Question:
I need a scooter that I can ride 15 miles to school each day. The fastest I saw on any website is about 40. If I go 40 on my street I'll get run over. I'm pretty clueless on this. Suggestions?

Does it drive you crazy to have to commute to work or school?

I used to ride a Vespa scooter all over town a few years ago, back when there were about 1/5th as many cars running around as there are now, and I'm surprised I'm alive today.

Suggestion? walk or ride a bus.

A 150cc scooter has a top speed of around 55-60 mph, but will require registration, insurance, and a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license. Check your regional craigslist for used values . . Honda, Yamaha, Kymco. Get insurance quotes from Foremost, Progressive, and Geico. If you can twist wrench, a China "crate" scooter might be an option.

Budget $200-$300 for safety gear . . at minimum a full face helmet, padded riding jacket, and riding gloves. This video shows why.

How is the public transportation in San Jose, California?

Get a motorcycle license endorsement so that you can ride a scooter with an engine displacement greater than 50cc. I suggest a 125 or 150 cc. First you'll have to get a motorcycle permit. With a 125 or 150, you can go up to 60 mph on flat roads.

WHY is there NO Public Transpostation in a LOT of Area on Weekends & Holidays?I dont Drive To Save the EARTH?

I suggest a Yamaha Vino 125. Kymco is my second recommendation. Piaggio, Vespa, and Aprilia are nice, but maintenance is more expensive. TGB, Hyosung, Daelim, SYM, and Genuine make nice scooters (all Taiwanese or Korean), but their service and parts networks are less extensive than Yamaha's. Check out the Genuine Buddy 125. It has a small frame like the Vino 125; it's the Vino's most direct competitor. Honda and Suzuki don't have 125-150cc scooters in the U.S. Stay away from Chinese brands, no-name brands, Schwinn, and T'NG. And don't buy a scooter from the Internet; you won't be able to get service and parts for a cheap and crappy Chinese-made scooter. It's better to buy a used scooter made by an established manufacturer. Keep up with the maintenance, and ride safe.

If it isn't safe to ride scooters in your area, take the bus or get a car.
