Question:
We seniors are the most discliplined people on the planet. If we planned it out, and all worked together, we could make a serious dent in the fuel consumption. Remember, oour numbers are higher than at any other time in history. Many of us are on fixed incomes and cannot afford these high gasoline prices. Any Interest out there? We need these gas prices to get back down!! I'm not against people making money, but not off the backs of those who can least afford it.

People coming across the line all the time?
well i totally agree with what your saying, im down for the causeHow do you travel from the Seattle-Tacoma Airport in Washington to Bellevue,Washington?
Hey put me down, gas is just a waste product from the refinement of oil, so why should it be so high .I remember when they put lead in gas for the more powerful engines they raised the price. Now they don't put the lead in and they raise the price. If any body does anything it will have to be us, this new generation will not do anything if they need to walk past the refrigerator, and they try to get someone to bring it to them then.itzjnj@sbcglobal.net
Public transport what is your view ?
I am in,,,I live close enough to work to walk, and can stock up on groceries,,,,,,,so I don't have to shop,,,,,,I say let's go for it,,,,,Let me know when to start,,,,,,I hate doing things on my ownThe idea is a good one, but futile..no offense.
First of all, the amount of oil used for gasoline is <20%...you still need to think about lubrication, heavy fuel oil used in ships, fuel in trains, airplanes and all of the industry like construction and transportation that wil not stop operating just to make a statement. Oil is also used in a lot of materials that we use day to day. Besides, based on principle alone, we're all going to have to fill up eventually if we want to go somewhere, and the oil companies know this...in the end, they'll still win.
Why do we rush to work but don't rush home?
I get what you're trying to do though. Too many people want to whitewash oil out of our society all together, but in 2007, it's just about impossible seeing as how we don't have many alternatives. We can use ethanol, which really cuts back more on emissions and pollution (hydrocarbons, MTBE) than it does fuel consumption, and it'll come at the cost of wiping out corn supplies, or at the bare minimum, driving the price up making the life-blood of many non-western countries harder to obtain. On top of that, full-on E85 (85% Ethanol) will not run properly in cars made pre-2006, so it still leaves millions of cars running on the regular 10% mixture.
Commuting times from San Jose to Emeryville, CA?
We're working on hydrogen, but need safety and delivery systems before it can be mainstreamed. You really don't want any joe-blow pumping volatile hydrogen into cars...at least how it's understood now. On top of that, there's an entire infrastructure built throughout the country for the oil industry...no such thing exists for hydrogen, so spreading it's usage will also pose a problem.
How long does it take to drive 90 miles?
Hybrids are about as best as we can do right now, but they present issues as well. Aside from the fact that they're usually unattractive, they're not much cheaper and offer no incentive to buy to the average joe...a small tax credit is just not enough. Also, they're tougher to work on and presumably more expensive as well, seeing as how the automotive training industry hasn't had all that long to produce certified mechanics for hybrids, so the few that are available command high labor rates.
Can you cook a meal on the engine block?
Last I had heard, the typical internal combustion engine runs at only 30% efficiency due to all of the rotating metal mass and metal to metal contacts. One step the automotive industry may take is to experiment with materials and metals that won't wear or weigh as much, but I doubt it will be cheap.
How can we (2) broke guys get to Orange County, CA by the 14th with no cash at hand now?
The worst thing we can do right now is bite the hand that feeds us. Unfortunately, that hand belongs to the oil companies for now. We NEED oil at this point in the game, and cutting that supply off before we have a suitbale alternative is one of the worst things we can do. For all of the people in America that will try to do good by the environment, there are 5.7 billion other people in the world, and a large majority of them will purchase the oil we don't use...there's always going to be a customer for the oil companies, so whether we buy it or not, they're not going anywhere.
What cities have the BEST public transportation system?
I have to say though, that knowing there's awareness and support throughout the range of ages is a positive sign, and as my generation ages (I'm a youngin'..26) that support will ferment into advancements in science and technology.
What's the best car for every-day commuting?
OPEC sets the gas prices whether you like it or not. If we produce more here, or buy it from terrorists from South America then OPEC just raises the price of theirs. Check it out the info is no secret. Maybe it would be better to get the largest set of Seniors to get America to drop their taxing per gal. Have you seen those totals? (tax)Dan
