Lot's of patience!!! I live in NYC and the traffic can be a pain in the a**...but you get used to it after a while.Where can I find out how much traffic a particular street gets?
Don't. Take a taxi or a bus. I lived in New Jersey for 8 years and worked in NYC for a while...trust me, you don't want to drive in NYC unless you absolutely have to!driving to JFK from long island?
watch out for the taxi cabs and pedestrians...and pay attention to the signs cuz lots of streets r one way.Is Lafayette Indiana traffic bad?
Carry a loud horn.i live in manhatten NY. driving? haha you're funny. you would get to your destination much faster walking than driving. lets say you need to go 20 blocks. use the subway, or walking. subway you can get their in 4 minutes depending on how trains are running. walking would take about 15 minutes or more driving would take about 45 minutes. NYC is one of the busiest cities in the world don't take your own car and expect any better than bad driving conditions in the city. it's always rush hour in NYC don't drive unless you want to take the long way and are taking your time and want to be late.
How close do I have to be behind a semi on the expressway to be drafting?

That is why they invented the taxi, bus and subway. Besides you will NEVER find a place to park.
Familiarize yourself with roads on a Sunday morning before attempting rush hr. traffic. Remember no right on red anywhere in city. Get a basic map that shows basic street and avenue grids ad relationships to each other and Central Park , bridges and tunnels and landmarks. As well as a more detailed map showing address group #s . Such as 12th street 200s block. Get your sense of direction first. Locate parking options before going. Get easy pass before going.
well one thing ... typically you don't run lights in the city
Cabs and people are tough to avoid but you have to
I was 17 the first time I drove it and it's not for rookies ...
you need big city experience for this kind of driving .. many cars people and movement. I tell people I drive to Tampa just to keep up some of the "skills" needed for driving up here. I've driven Dallas, LA, Atlanta, Chicago and some others ... I've driven from NY to Fl to Tx to IL and unless your really good at driving
How Does Tampa Traffic Compare With New York Traffic?
take a cab, bus or subway ... easier and faster since they've got all the experience
Can People with Epliepsy drive in California?
unless you're getting paid for it DON'T and even then it's hard. The fastest and cheapest way around Manhattan is by subway or on foot.I have literally spent 30 minutes to go around 1 block [ I had to make a delivery and all the double parking spaces were taken]
The math : 1/5 mi + 1/20 +1/5 + 1/20 =10/20 mi = 1/2 mi =1mph
btw. above 14 Th St. Manhattan is on a grid
5 blocks to a mile crosstown & 20 blocks to a mile up & downtown. So now you know why cab fares are based on 1/5 mile.
Driving, what do people think about being charged per mile on the roads??
Another consideration, do you own the car? Many, many, many rental car companies won't insure you to drive in NYC.road constution on oh. turnpike 80?
However, I think driving in the NYC suburbs is actually worse than driving in the city. More drivers, with less experience, plus the "me first" attitude and so many expressways built when cars only reached 20 miles/hour. In the city, traffic is comparatively orderly. But the pedestrians will jump in front of you.
Hey I just bought a tank, whats the best highway to take it on?

Mass Transit is the only way to go....Parking is expensive, tickets are worse and they all drive like KamakazisHow much time does one person spend in traffic?
