I take the bus. I commute to the neighboring town to work. Lately the specter of budget cuts has haunted the region. If they decide that this particular route is too costly? I'm not the only one effected, HUNDREDS take this same route,every day,and every night,to work. If they cut service- what-do-we-DO!? :O

learn to drive, get a car or carpool. or get a motorbike or something as a last resort.but if hundreds take the route chances are they'll not cut it.
If there are hundreds who would be harmed by this they probably don't want to take the route out of there busing services...I would get a petition going if you feel like the tables have turned on you...
If it happens (and it may not) you will have to look at alternatives. You have a multitude of choices. You could car pool with someone else who works with you in a nearby neighborhood. You could move closer to the job and walk to work. You could take some lessons and learn to drive and get a vehicle. If it isn't too far you could ride a bicycle. Multitudes of choices available to you.

Start calling your county or city commisioners or councilmen. Start screaming about youur concerns. Give their phone numbers and email addresses to everyone on the bus. Have them call and email. Do it over and over. Be a pest. Make them say "We will not take away the route."
I had the same problem and we were coddled with "Don't worry, everything will be the same, no changes, blah, blah, blah." We lost the route and Hundreds lost jobs or had to move.
Call the news media in the area tell them of your "plight" the "woes" of all the people that will "suffer" if the route is cancelled.

Get a cheep bike that's what I did when I was saving up for a car. I had to ride my bike like 10 miles to work every other day.
