When will automakers make a full size truck that can get 50 MPG?

Question:

Answers:

Why do we rush to work but don't rush home?

They could theoretically do it in the next 10 years. The technology is there, but there is too much posturing and politics involved to do so efficiently.

How long would it take?

Full size trucks are heavy and are designed for work and towing, I think if we could get to a Legitimate 35MPG on the highway instead of an estimated MPG, we would be making great progress.

Pune -India - traffice is worst who will improve ??

I would also like to see more biodiesel for Class 8 trucks (semis, flatbeds, etc). Keep in mind when your vehicle weighs 40 TONS, 5-7mpg is GOOD, but a sensible and VIABLE alternative fuel for trucks should also be considered. People wonder why everything from clothes to groceries is expensive. its because the people delivering these goods are being taken to town at the pump also. talk about "trickle down economics"!!!

Can I install a toilet in my van that emptys onto the highway when I flush it?

Don't know about 50mpg, but they already have hybrid trucks out on the market, get about 32 depending on engine size you want.

Would you pay extra to buy a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle if it could run for 30-50 miles on electric only?

It probably will never happen. According to the trends in average MPG for trucks for the past 20 years it hasn't really moved at all. Chances are we'll long be done with petrol fuel by the time 50mpg can happen :)

Does anyone know what the far left lane is used for?

It is very unfortunate that there is already a truck engine that GM made in the fifties that got over fifty miles to the gallon. They have not produced it yet. I feel the oil companies in this country will not allow it. If you want to get better gas mileage from a truck there is a major problem. Better mileage usually means that you give up power for mileage. That being you won't have a vehicle that will work but will give good mileage. Remember basic laws of science. For every action there is a reaction...Good luck with this one...

Can you tell me how many miles to the gallon a mitsubishi shogan 3ltr does thanks.?

I believe it's mechanically impssible to get 50 mpg from a full size truck, given normal American driving patterns. 35 might be possible with a very well optimized hybrid drive and reducing weight using advanced materials. (which would drive the price through the roof!)

When driving on the road, how many seconds should you stay away from the car in front of you?

Aerodynamic drag cannot be improved much. It's a full size truck; it's big. To reduce aero drag you'd have to make it smaller, and now it's not a full size truck anymore.

What do yall think about thsoe huge mobile home busses you see people driving around ?

Of course people could just drive differently... slowing down would reduce the impact of aero drag, so yes, if you could put a 40 MPH governor on this truck, you could get it to 50 MPG. *LAUGH* Now who's gonna buy it?

Have you ever particpated in Road Rage?

Maybe with plug-in hybrids we may see it, but that's just tampering with the numbers. I mean, suppose you drive 40 miles on battery then 20 more miles on the engine at 20 MPG. Did you really get 60 MPG? No. You got 20 MPG.

It could only be done if it were made of plastic, and nobody would buy a plastic car, except me.
