I live in Australia and we are charged by the litre. It is about $1.25/litre now. (About 88cents per quart in US amounts or 4 X 88=3.52 per gallon U.S dollars) The petrol (gas) co.s raise the price with every Holiday as they did here at Easter. They raise the price at school holidays in Australia...but curiously not at the same time in America and the U.K. so I know that they are sucking us dry at holidays (pardon the pun). because they know that we will drive further and longer at this time and they can get more money from consumers. It should be condemned!
