Why are 4x4 drivers slow road hogs who are think they own the road?
I drive big trucks. I live in Lincoln Land also. I set my cruise @ 63 or 64 on rural interstates. I could not count how many times I had my C.B. radio down@63 or64 jamming to some tunes or yapping on the cell, only to find Smokey Bear sneaking up on me. Not letting off the fuel, he just wasn't interested. One time I was on south bound I-57 through Kankakee, I was passing another truck @ 66 and BOOM there he was sitting in the medium facing me taking my picture. That bear did not look twice at me. I probably got lucky on that one. On those rare occasions when the I.S.P. is doing speed traps I won't go a mile over 60. In Chicagoland just go with the flow and stay out of the hammer lane. Illinois and The Buckeye(ohio) shares the same speed limit (55 big trucks\65 4-wheelers) but you MUST be on your best behavior in Ohio. In my four wheeler I run 74 max on the big road. It might be a tad bit too much but I've had no problems. Illinois past it TWICE for big trucks to run @65 on rural interstates and Governor Blockhead(Blagoivich) vetoed it twice. I did not vote for that Chicago politician so don't blame me.how much is the cost for the taxi from vanocuver airport to down town?
55. The speed limit is just that. The limit. The fastest you can go safely under ideal conditions. If conditions are not ideal, then the speed limit drops to the safe speed for the conditions. A lot of engineering time has gone into the decision as to the safe speed for the section of road you are on. Remember, limit, not suggestion.why do you drive on parkways and park on driveways?
Us Illinoisians (Chicagoans more specifically) are well known for our speeding. I usually go the speed limit in residential areas, 5-10 over on highways, and "with the flow" on expressways which can range from the speed limit to ~80mph. You can't really safely go over the limit everywhere but if you take the same streets over and over you know where the police like to hide and if you are in the middle of everyone speeding then you're probably OK.When you get a speeding ticket, how many days does it take till you receive it by post? Thanks :)?
This is all from a car driver's POV, Cops may be more strict with truck drivers...
I respectfully disagree with Oklatom; from all appearances, speed limits have little to do with engineering or physics and a WHOLE LOT do to with politics. In particular, speed limits are about controlling others, making them feel bad for resisting that control (stigmatizing rational and reasonable behavior as "bad"), and creating a revenue stream along the way. On many roads, there is no problem doing 80 or even 90 safely; many interstate highways were designed with these travel parameters in mind and except in icy or slippery conditions, it is in fact quite safe to drive 80 or 90 mph.
when driving on snow covered highways in a small car such as a cavilier or a cobalt?
The insurance lobby doesn't want that because they are afraid of claims. So they lobby legislators at appropriate levels to have lower speed limits. Not to safe lives or limbs, to reduce claim payments. We have become so sloppy in our thinking that we buy into the lie of "speed kills".
Speed in itself does not kill. STUPIDITY kills. Stupidity includes driving too slow, not maintaining lane discipline, entering a highway without getting up to the speed of flowing traffic, pulling
out in front of another vehicle and forcing it to brake to avoid striking your car, impeding the progress of other drivers, among other things.
Speed is related to claims because the driver who is safely doing 90 in the far left lane on the highway has an idiot doing 60 in the center lane cut in front of him because Mr. Center Lane wanted to pass a slower moving vehicle (SMV) doing only 50, but Mr. Center Lane didn't care who he was going to endanger or inconvenience when he passed the SMV, and the collision gets blamed on Mr. 90 when it really is jointly the fault of Mr. 50 (who should have been in the right lane) and Mr. 60 who failed to pass Mr. 50 prudently, but might have done so had 50 remained in the right lane so 60 could pass in the center and 90 could pass in the left.
I have observed drivers in Illinois safely and successfully drive on highways 8 or 9 mph over the posted speed without arousing the ire of the state troopers.
Did it take you a long time to get home today?
Lived in Illinois my whole life, and get away with 5 to 10 over all the time. Unless on a small sidestreet, then a couple over limit. If you run down I 355 at 55 mph, you're dead meat, pick it up a little.as a retired driver i always went through illinois at 60 to 70 miles an hour and in 20 yrs got only 1 ticket because i was not paying attention. rule of thumb don't make yourself stand out by staying in the hammer lane or show off lane. mind your own self and don't dont get in a pack because the first and second truck in a pack will get caught and listen to the raido as it will tell you where the bear is hiding.
