I would get bored after awhile. One needs to get out of the house. You can get into a rut this way.
When you are in the office there are not the same distractions that can occur while you are home. Like a stay at home parent no wanting more time from you. Even though you have to work it can be easier to work at work. Also some people find it hard to find the motivation to work when they are in their sanctuary. When you at work and then go home you can leave work at work. If you work at home you can't leave work anywhere and feel like you are surrounded by it 24/7.
Also it is harder to impress a supervisor if they don't see you. They may not see the actual work that you do. If you have a normal desk job then you may actually put in more time and effort than someone else but because they have finished more projects then they are rewarded.

One of the hindrances to working out of one's home is the home office issue. I live in a small, 2 BR house. My "office" is my dining room table, I kid you not. My printer has been there for about 4 years and my laptop never goes in my lap. No Way! I am a search and rescue worker. I love the time when I work (in the woods)You have to realize some people do not have a life outside of work. Some people don't have any friends or even family and that is where there excitement comes from. Some people might be in an abusive relationship and need a chance to get out when ever they can.
