Speed camera?

Question:
was traveling along a road with no one else on it, i was doing about 36 in a 30 zone, i know, there was no white lines on my side of the road. but there was on the other side which was where the camera was -it flashed twice, it was a gatso type but i thought they only flashed you from the back, does anyone know anything about these gatsos, thanks

Answers:

Why do you drive 28mph in a 35mph zone?

I don't think they will be able to measure your speed.
The camera is triggered by your exessive speed, but they measure your speed by taking two pictures a set time appart, then seeing how far you travelled in that set time. They need the white lines to get a measurement. If there are no white lines on your side of the road, they can't tell you how fast you were going and therefore are unable to accuse you of anything.

Are stoplights triggered by time relays or traffic sensors?

Hi no they do flash twice i have been caught twice and im back on foot now with my car on the drive.

A commuters quandry? People who don't practice slower traffic keep right?

Many cameras are bi-directional and can therefore zap you in whichever direction you are going. They work by transmitting a beam towards your car and then measuring the reflected signal back to the camera. This reflected signal will have a higher frequency then the transmitted signal if you are travelling towards the camera and a lower frequency than the transmitted signal if you are travelling away from the camera. This is called the Doppler effect. The cameras take many thousands of readings during each 'zap' and the difference between the transmitted and received frequencies is averaged and thereby gives an extremely accurate measurement of your speed. The lines on the road are only there for irrefutable pictorial evidence, but the frequency measurements are so accurate that the lines are not always required for a conviction. It is the same principle as the hand-held cameras that the traffic police use. Given that generally the police allow a 10% error for the speedo and a 2% parallax error (the error that you get when your eyline is not fully in line with the axis of the speedo) then the maximum speed allowed would be 33.6m.p.h. Bear in mind that many cameras do not store the image, as they are there as a visual deterrent, so it is unlikely that you will get a conviction, but if you do then at least you now know why.

How do I put gas in the car?

My son is in the fire and rescue service and the fire appliances get zapped in both directions. The tickets are sent to Area Headquarters where they are checked to see what time the camera took the shot and checked again to see if they were on a shout or coming back from one. Caught coming back is not good news

Are You Sick of Driving?

Speed cameras are on some streets so the cops will earn some money for speeding or red lights. The cameras take 2 pictures of your license plate in the back so the cops will send you a ticket and it will arrive through mail. Get a radar and I heard that there is a new radar on the market that tells people to slow down on highways or streets when a cop has a laser gun to catch your speed.

What are some ways you can decrease your daily commute time to spend more time with your family ?

Yes it might have been a tuvelo type. These look like Gatsos but do photo you from the front as well.
