Commuting from Letchworth G.C. to Chiswick?

I can't afford the train fares any more so have started driving from Letchworth to Chiswick. It took over 2 and a half hours this morning (A1 and A406), can anyone recommend a quicker route? I have to be at Chiswick Roundabout by 08.50 to be at work for 09.00.
