Los Angeles Traffic Congestion?

Question:
What steps are being done in order to fight LA's traffic snarls? What will be the way of the future? Say 20 years from now?

Answers:

Does anybody commute to Tarrytown, NY?

First of all, sadly the state took the extra sales tax money voted to build and repair roads for several years.. They are now limited on how much that they can steal and must now repay in a set time. That said freeways in all areas continually are under additional construction about 10 years behind the need. My solution would be to fence off the fast lanes on all freeways and lay light rail track on the lane. After watching the small trains go by at 50-60 mph while creeping along at 5 mph, people would get out of their cars and get on the train. Parking areas would be needed at the various stations. At the home stations for the personal cars to take home, and at the destination stations, small electric cars could be rented on a month to month basis to drive the last short distance to work. They could have charging stations in the parking spaces to charge the small cars overnight.

How far is junction city kansas to oklahoma city?

Well if you read the paper today they "forgot" to fund a 700 MILLION car pool lane on the 405.

What are the motorways like?

It's only going to get worse since they won't be sending the 20 MILLION ILLEGAL aliens back south of the border anytime soon.

What is the fastest way to commute from Staten Island to Jersey City?

I believe the future is bleak in which traffic will be so terrible...jams will not only be on freeways but normal streets as well :P kidding..I think we will discover other way's of transportation but I do believe the jams will only be getting worse. As to what they are doing to resolve the problem I am unsure of this...perhaps they should provide some of the same transportation that New York has and also resort more to building up rather than out. Other than this...here is an interesting fact that the national emergancy evacuation center provided about information on LA's evacuation plan. Did you know it would take a little less than a month for LA to be fully and completely evacuated of all its people? This is with no accidents and perfect conditions on the freeways for a full evacuation :P This means that if a warning were to be provided on an Earthquake or Tsunami, there would not be enough time for more than 90% of LA's population to reach safe ground before it is too late.

Over the hills and far, far, far away...?

L.A. will NEVER have traffic relief, because freeway improvements are always too little, too late to cure anything, and sensible solutions like elevated trains or monorails above the freeways always seem to get discussed, but never built.
