Question:
Why dont they just add it to the cost of fuel, same thing in my opinion the more you use through milage and in efficient cars the more you pay, by charging per mile the way government is talking about will involve a developing a complicated and expensive system to track all the vehicles, or is it just that they want to be able to keep track of our wherabouts, and what speed we are doing??

Yes, it is all about money! Why does Godmanchester feature on 50% of Radio 5Live traffic reports?
A very large portion of the amount I pay in taxes already goes to build and maintain roads. Why should I have to pay more? Why are 4x4 drivers slow road hogs who are think they own the road?
I understand the idea that charging per mile driven would mean that the people who use the roads the most will pay the most -- but you know government, they will only *add* this tax to the existing tax burden, they won't rescind the taxes we already pay to maintain roads!
Do you think light rail is a good idea??
Horrible idea.
How long does it take to travel 2.3 miles at 30 miles per hour?
I think it is ridiculous...it's like paying toll-fee....No, it doesn't sound right, we already paid our taxes to build the roads....OPEC is going to slow down it's production?
I also think that it is too complicated system to keep track of. The good part is that if the system could be established effectively you will be charged by the deterioration you cause to the roads equitatively and other similar expenses for the maintenance. How close do I have to be behind a semi on the expressway to be drafting?
This is just how the roads you are driving on got paid for! But they would like to charge you extra to use the roads now, - it also lets them keep track of what everybody is doing and where they are going! This is quite useful when the govt. might decide to control the masses as they wish!! And of course with toll roads, they can let foreign countries "build the toll roads" (using a whole bunch of our cash also), - then the foreign country can collect the toll money (and control these strips of american real-estate for a hudred years or so). This will of course make it easier for NATO to take control of our country at some time, -- becasue if you can't travel, you can't "resist"too well either! What does the yellow sign on a gas pump stand for?
Now if the govt. wishes to remove the taxes on gasoline all together, - and put in tollgates every 5 miles or so, that is another matter! And the states lower the liscence fees down to minimum cost! This would pay for the roads much the same as before, -- but traffic would be slow as usual, and things would be pretty much the same! The only gain is that they would speed up "open road" travel, - and interstate roads, by just charging toll at each tollgate. They would just limit acess so that yhou couldn't get on without paying toll to next gate - where you would have to pay to stay on (to next gate), - or get off there. Here in Texas, there are sometimes 100 mile stretches with no other highways turning off!
Do you ever drive just for the sake of it?
I think it sucks big time, particularly when the residents of the United Kingdom are so very overtaxed in the first place. Why do speeders like driving in the slow lane?
The gvt. doesn't want to put Detroit out of business any sooner than they will naturally go. Would you buy a hummer if gas was $8 a gallon? It's better for the auto industry for hiway funds to come from income taxes than actually have the people who use the resources most actually pay for them. Don't believe those who say their liscence fees and gas taxes pay for roads; they hardly pay for the paperwork.More Questions & Answers ...
