Why do children and old people with free travel seem to use the bus instead of the underground?

Question:
The freedom pass is for free travel on both as I have one being over 60. Lots of kids and old people on the bus but very few on the underground. Why? As you see from my previous question I am fed up with old people in my way why can't they move quickly like I do and I am old.

Answers:

do buses need gas?

Travelling by underground tends to involve a lot of walking and climbing stairs, a lot of old folks are a bit weary and would rather not do all that extra work when they can just sit at a bus stop and wait. Good for you that you're old and fast, but not everyone is!

Why do we park in our driveways.... and drive on the parkways?

I expect kids are told not to travel on the underground because their parents don't feel it is safe for them. It isn't. I used to do it when I was a kid and got flashed at once and offered money by a strange man another time. I wouldn't want my kids travelling by underground, but feel less bothered by the bus as it is more open and easier to get off of!

Have locol government got to put traffic lights on every corner?

For the older people with disabilities, the underground is not designed for these sort of people who may need wheelchairs, scooters, walking sticks or crutches to get around with.
With so many strange people about,i wouldn't let my children use the tubes, especially after the train bombings last year.
Not only that,a bus gets you closer to your destination that a train does.

What bus line from Embarcadero, SF to Golden Gate Park, SF?

I think that children and the elderly use the bus because they think it is safer, it is out in the open and they can see where they are going because things are familiar to them. When travelling on the underground it can become very disorientating and confusing and there are no focal points for you to look at to see if you're on the right route or not.

I have tried the tube with 3 small children and believe me... its not funny. In fact its quite hair raising, you should try it.

What to do?

Perhaps because they have plenty of time? I only use the tube if I'm in a hurry - it's not really the most pleasant form of travel.
And what makes you so important anyway?

At what point does a posted speed limit take affect? Is it at sight or after you pass it?

Also buses are often cleaner
