Actually, if a toll road system (like they have in america) is used along the same basis as the USA i have no problems with it at all... why should people who drive 5,000 miles a year pay the same road tax as someone who drives 30,000 miles a year?does anyone know what a red handicapped parking permit means?
In america they have the system of that you pay for the roads you use with no standard road tax.

I think the M6 toll was a great idea, badly needed, and i use it all the time, i do object to the price increase, but i will still use the toll.

This may be way out of my league but let me give you another perspective from the US.. Toll roads are a joke here in the US. They do not lessen congestion and the roads are no better maintained than any other road. They are however more patrolled by the police which leads to more speeding tickets and even more revenue for the gov't. And if you ever come to the US i highly recommend stopping at the rest areas.... The accomidations there are better than most hotel/motels.. Flat screen televisions and internet acess throw a matress in the jon and your all set. Sorry folks but its this guys opinion that Toll roads don't help a bit. Unless of course you need a better rest stop....Don't you guys hate it when you signal to change lanes and noone lets you in?

Well have it your own way - but pretty soon nobody will be going anywhere due to gridlock. This isn't just talk - it's happening now -open your eyes and look around you. There are too many people chasing not enough road space. The result is plain to see.
Congestion is a hidden tax on EVERYONE. We all pay for it through vans and lorries taking longer to complete their deliveries, more buses being need just to maintain the service, and of course the cost of peoples time just sitting in traffic jams. What sort of freedom is this?
In a free market any item in short supply costs more, be it cabbages or road space. Or at least it would cost more if the market is allowed to work properly.
I suppose it is hardly surprising that people are angry though. For years and years governments have done everything they can to encourage people to buy and use cars and become car dependent. And now the chickens are coming home to roost.
