Oil and Gas pricing IS NOT SET by GW Bush or any other individual political figure! Sure he doesn't have a good track record, but lets try to use some facts instead of the usual whine-assing of Bush this and Bush that. its getting old!!
Here goes: Commodity traders in our Nation's financial centers, NY, LA, Chicago, etc study projected use, the amount of production, how much is in reserve and make their calculations from those figures. As we had enjoyed a relatively mild winter throughout most of the nation, demand for heating oil was lower. Travel is fairly common at this point in the year with Spring Break and nicer weather approaching.
The continued unsettled situation with Iraq, Iran and the Middle East is a MAJOR Factor in fuel pricing. As much as I hate to even suggest or admit this, I think we'd all be crying louder if there was not any military presence there... maybe more like $5/gallon kind of crying. Lets also not forget that Europe has been paying the equivalent of roughly $8 US/liter (under a gallon!) for quite some time now... like 4 or 5 years.
So I have not provided a complete answer as to why gas has taken a sharp spike upwards in price, those are a few contributing factors.
