Pray your family has another source of income. Unfortunately, punishing others by doing this also punishes your own family as well. I have the utmost respect for truckers. My husband was in transportation in the military and did a stint in civilian trucking. We also had a family friend who just left long haul after many years. Honestly, I really do believe that something needs to be done about the over-reliance on trucking in our society. It does cause unnecessary accidents and congestion on the highways.
I really don't believe anything would really happen IF you did go on strike. Not all drivers are in a Union so I'm sure there would still be plenty of trucks to clog our Highways and kill us.

That would be awful. Truckers are crucial to the rest of us getting day-to-day necessities. However,I can't help but notice that truck drivers (as well as everyone else) have become increasingly dangerous. I had an extremely close call with a truck several months ago that I will never forget. I was trying to get on the freeway. I was being very considerate and making every effort to not slow anybody else down of make them speed up to let me in. Traffic was moving well and I had plenty of room to merge. Next thing I know, the very large truck in the lane had spead up and almost ran me into the barricade. It was clearly intentional on the driver's part and could've injured one or both of us. Why would any driver take such a risk?Where can i find mileage on the internet?

freak out. we depend on you to transport the goods we purchase. Most people don't realize that. Like the person who said "Can we start this now?" Without you we don't get our food we purchase at the grocery store, the nice presents we buy our children for christmas, etc etc etc etc...i could go on and on.i appreciate all that you sacrifice to do your job. i understand the dangers, but it has to be done.

Knowing that the strike would most likely be publicized in advance, I would stock up on the things I'd need for that month, then take some time off work and hit the road for a relaxing and (for once) safe vacation. Rejoice, because then I wouldn't have to worry about idiot truck drivers on the Pennsylvania Turnpike trying to open my compact car like a can of tuna by tailgating me, not letting me merge in, etc..... I've had more close calls and bad experiences with 18-wheelers than with anyone else on the highway at 8:30am. And how about the ones blocking the left lane, when it clearly says "Left Lane / No trucks, buses"?

It's 2006, almost 2007.... we shouldn't need trucks. We should be using light rails, etc., where you can pack more in and keep the roads less congested. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have the infrastructure for that.

Rail is a good way to transport product,but how are you going to get your product from them . well, having had many friends in trucking, and having dated someone(traveled with her too) also spent a summer working with a moving company on the road......shame on you!! my question is....what if the railroads came back strong?...then what would you do?and 1 more thing...if you got off the road......maybe you guys could take the time and make sure that all of your trucks were placarded right for us emergency respondersi would actually drive on I-95 to get to work..it's much faster, but i wont do it because of my small car and all the truckers who whizz by me..kinda scares me. This sounds more like a threat or that you are fishing for validation of your importance. Honestly if there was a long strike many industries would be hurt badly and some companies may have to close.
