What's it like to live in Ashford and commute to London?

At the moment its takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to commute to London from Ashford. In 2009 when the fast link eventually starts running this will fall to 40 minutes.

Living in Ashford is not spectacular but it is improving. There is an anticipation amongst planners that there will be a doubling of the population over the next 25 years as more people from London move down here as property is extremely cheap and obviously they will be able to get to London quickly in order to work during the day.

As a result there is a great deal of development planned for this region. There is a reasonable amount to do here and it is a short distance from Canterbury and Folkestone. It is also well placed for the continent with Paris just 2 hours away by Eurostar.

Personally, I think the best thing this town has got going for it is the cheap property. It does'nt take an Einstein to realise that when the fast link to London finally happens there will be an increased demand for property in Ashford hence pushing up prices significantly. If your a property speculator this is one of the only remaining areas in the south east where there is money still to be made.
