A thought occurs! The further we travel, the more petrol we buy, the more petrol we buy, the more the government receives in taxes. Surely the new road charging system would mean we are being charged twice for the same thing.

I can think of no less effective way of dealing with congestion than the blunt instrument of taxation, for the simple reason that fuel-taxes already cost a fortune, and if people could find an alternative to all this ridiculous amount of travel, THEY WOULD DO.

I'm all for "chaging people's behaviour," but perhaps the planners could start first, and show a bit of leadership, by starting to decentralise things back to where they used to be.

If you can't afford the cost of operating an automobile (which is a luxury and not a right), then get on the bus and off the road so those of who are rich enough can get things done efficiently. I fully support efforts to price poor people and their junk cars off the roads.
