Question:
I currently live in the downtown Loop and commute to the southern suburbs for work. The reverse commute isn't bad at all - 30 minutes to the Homewood area, 30 minutes back, even during rush hour.
What is wrong with impatient people on the road?
I'm considering taking a job in Naperville / Aurora, in the western suburbs. I've driven on I-290 before, though, and in general it seems much busier than I-95 / I-57 during rush hour, even the "reverse" commute, going away from the city in the morning and coming back into the city in the evening.
When will gas hit five dollars per gallon?
Does anyone know if this is a much worse commute than the south suburbs? Should I plan for much longer times in the car?
Answers:
I've driven from Bloomington Normal to Chicago several times, the only real advantage of the loop is that is moves faster becuase there are less exits, less traffic slowing. However, it gets really backed up if there is an accident or bad weather or construction.
Does anyone commute from Lakeland to either Orlando or Tampa?
Not sure on the return (afternoon rush), but the morning rush always seems pretty smooth going west on 290, although I am out there a bit later (in the morning rush) than you might be. I'd listen to WBBM and see what they are giving for times around the same time you'd be driving the route, going and coming. You are right though, you should have an easier time commuting than the typical slob coming into Chicago in the AM and out in the PM.More Questions & Answers ...
