While a simple house does become a home with enough time invested, it is still a material commodity and can be replaced. I would check the real estate market in the area near your work and see if you like anything there. If it's appealing, don't hesitate to move. If it's not appealing or if there are other mitigating factors like high crime, bad services, higher taxes, poor schools, bad weather - then you may want to find a better way to commute such as by train, bus, carpool or even motorcycle.
