Diesels are being made now to where they are as environmentally friendly as gas engines. They also do much better on fuel mileage. Maintenance costs are NOT higher.Why do we rush to work but don't rush home?

No . Diesel fueled engines get slightly better mileage in autos, but maintenance costs more. Also, diesel fuel commonly cost more than gasoline. A true alternative would do away with petroleum products altogether. In the future, nope. Visited Brazil lately ?
