Question:
The road I live on is a dirt road about 10 minuets from the city of Morganton, NC a city of 20,000 people. I been wanting it paved for a long time but I can't afford it, anyway I feel the state should pay to have it paved not me. The road is about the length of a football field and is shared by about 15 houses, it's a named road with it's own street sign that the state put up a few years ago the road also appears on all maps of the area. In my opinion since the road is named and appears on maps and has so many people using it, that should make it a state road right? I was wondering how can I get the state to pave it. What should I do?

What do your neighbors think? All I've heard is i i i ! Maybe THEY dont want it paved.I have no expertise in this area, however go to your local city hall and ask for the planning committee and zoning dept, ask for the Mayor and start getting a petition together of everyone on that street, that may be a start.
Contact your government representative for your district.
L.A. to Temecula with traffic? How long?
If it is like my state you want to approach the county and not the state.State only takes care of highways.
You and your neighbors need to visit your local county courthouse and see if you can get them to take over ownership of the road.
(Who owns it now?)
Car holding up traffic in left lane.?
Wine & dine the road commishnerCall the county road commission(that is what it is called here). You and your neighbors will have to pay some part of the fee based on road frontage....if there are 15 houses on a dirt road no bigger than a football field how much could it be? It may be that if they sign a petition that signifies that they all want the road paved; the county may do it gratis but it is doubtful...it does vary but usually you will pay something.
when was Hanger Lane underpass opened?
Try building a mall next to your house. this will create a whole lot more tax revenue than 15 homeowners ever will ,and this is how govt. sees things.what is a sucide lane or a reserve lane?
I used to live on a dirt rode in Motown for 11 years the 12th year it finally got paid...sorry I don't know how it finally got done other than my mother and father filed complaints.what do you do in these kind of situations?
I'd start at the County level of government first. Your county commissioner most likely has the authority to have your road paved. You should check to see who your county commissioner is for your district. Before contacting your commissioner I'd suggest rallying the support of your neighbors, say in the form of a nice letter signed by all affected. This gives you more legitimacy as county commissioners get calls everyday from someone complaining about roads. A letter signed by everyone shows the commissioner that this is truly an important issue and not just someone ranting and raving. Also, it would help if you could frame the request in a way that addresses public safety or some other important issue. Explain why the road should be paved. For example, you could explain that the road is almost unnavigable after a rain and thus would hinder an emergency vehicle trying to reach someone. Again this adds legitimacy to your request and it scores political points for the commissioner which will make him or her more likely to answer your request. If this didn't work I would go to a county commissioner meeting with several neighbors and make a request in front of the entire board of county commissioners. Just make sure you ask to be put on the agenda first. Good luck.I am on I-40 near Waynesville in a traffic jam, could you tell me why?
Well good luck! I've lived on a dirt road for 27 years every year the local goverment tells me "next year" I'm still on the list.A way you could go about it is get your neighbors together and get in touch w/ your county goverment. If you are in a rural area you most likely aren't a incorporated area, so you would fall under your countys rules Contact your county commisioner, make waves, But one thing you need to realize if your road is paved be prepared for 1.speeding cars and 2. higher land taxes. Good luck!!!!
