At one point on our trip from Fort Collins to Salt Lake City at Thanksgiving, I noted to my wife that we had?

Question:
gone exactly 80 miles in 90 minutes (so that we were averaging less than 60 miles per hour). At that point, we were on I-80 traveling on cruise control at the maximum legal speed limit of 75 mph.

Do you wish you had Wings?

How long would it take until we averaged exactly 60 mph from the beginning of the trip?

Answers:

Traffic noise?

stops and starts lower that average alot, the only way to get an avg of 75 is to start the time at when you hit that speed, It doesn't sound like much but it does make a big differnce. I tell my boyfriend I have to pee and he wont till he needs gas sometimes an HOUR!! but I will say we do get there quicker than when I drive and stop! Oh, also your speedometer could be off as well, just being of 5% is not unheard of even in new cars so that would put you traveling at a max of 71.5mph. Hope this helps!

How do I calculate mileage rate (reimbursement) for driving my car for work?

Don' t you just love rate, time, distance problems? Here are 2 examples of how to achieve the 60 mph average but first, please realize that both examples are based strictly on the math and that the speeds, times and distances used make for easy math. We are not concerned with acceleration times, stopping for gas, tolls, etc.
Let's assume (I know, I know) that at the moment you realized that you had traveled 80 miles in 90 minutes you were in the process of accelerating to the max speed limit of 75 mph. Forget the speed limit! Do 80 mph for the next 30 minutes and the distance traveled is 40 miles. 80 miles in 90 minutes plus 40 miles in 30 minutes equals 120 miles in in 120 minutes. A mile a minute or 60 mph.
You will have averaged 60 mph 2 hours into your trip.
In the second example, for easy math, let's change the the first segment (90 minutes) from 80 miles in 90 minutes to 78 miles in 90 minutes (52 mph). For the next segment (60 minutes) of the trip (you're on I-80 @ 75 mph), you travel at 75 mph. So far, you have traveled 153 miles (78 miles plus 75 miles) in 150 minutes (90 minutes plus 60 minutes). For the third segment (30 minutes) of the trip, you need to travel 27 miles (49 mph). You have traveled a total of 180 miles (78 + 75 + 27). You have been on the road for 180 minutes (90 + 60 + 30). 180 miles in 180 minutes. A mile a minute or 60 mph.
You will have averaged 60 mph 3 hours into your trip.
Of course, we can manipulate the results by changing the speeds and the times.
This was a fun exercise.
Hope all of your trips are safe.

Do you know if I can write off the mileage for taking my son back and forth to daycare?

Why is the right lane the slow lane?

serriously dude...who fricking cares.lol
but if you must know do the math...
80/1.5 hours = 53.33333333 miles per hour
80 miles plus 75 miles divided by 2.5 is 62 per
so there ya got it would have to drive just under anouther addittional hour @ 75 per.
