A good idea, providing there is a viable alternative form of transport to road. I think it works in London because there is a (comparatively) excellent public transport system, such as buses and tube.What time does the bus leave & what # is it from ronkonmaka station going to hauppauge n.y.11788?
I do not, however, believe it would work in other British cities, like Leicester or Birmingham, because there are insufficient alternatives. It would be therefore viewed as another stealth tax.

If there is a superb integrated public transpost system it's just about ok I guess. But where I live in Plymouth it costs £3.10 for a single ticket from the city centre to my home, a 4 mile trip which is absolute extortion. And that's if the bus turns up at all!! Fair enough in London, it's where all the money is and public transport is almost as efficient as the car (well as a tourist it seems it), but anywhere else it would be sick.

What I do mind though is Red Ken playing around with the phasing of the traffic lights to slow down traffic just before the zone was introduced and then re-optimising then just after. I don't know many people who have changed their driving habbits as a result.

All I know is that people either pay the charge (except certain embassy staff who claim it is a tax and that they are exempt) or they have changed their cars.
