I agree with what everyone has said so far. Definitely do not drive fast. Here in the US, cars run most efficiently at 55 miles per hour. I am not sure for what speed your car is tuned for. You might want to ask around for that. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. An under inflated tire decreases gas mileage. I actually over inflate my tires a little bit. There is less tire on the road and therefore less friction, therefore better mileage. Make sure you do not have a lot of stuff in your car trunk. If your trunk has a lot of unnecessary items in it, take it out. The heavier you weigh the car down, the less fuel efficient it is.Oh! Dear.....

change the engine oil every 2500 miles, avoid idling for a long time. give your car a tune-up, keep the max cold tire inflation in your tires normally molded into your tires sidewall .man rescued person from new york subway tracks?
There several things, first replace all your filters. Fuel, Air, Breather, etc.. Get your fuel system flushed. Make sure you're up to date on your maintenance. Such as tune-up, transmission. Next use you Cruise control if you have one. 55 is no lie. It is the best speed for conservation. Don't rush to a stop sign.....coast (it'll also save on your pads). Accelerate nice and easy. If you do these things you will definitely see a difference.maintain a constant speed, drive nice, start slow and down stomp on the gas, keep your tires inflated to the proper psi, and regular maintenance should all do the trick.
Jackrabbit starts really kill mileage. Accelerate gradually, and your fuel economy should improve.
