Would you mind driving a small 3 wheeled vehicle in the city?

Question:
I'm an industrial design student, and I'm designing an urban vehicle. The current idea is to make a very small two seater car, that's low to the ground, with two wheels in the front, and one in the back. The point of this vehicle is to be very fast, space efficient, and fuel efficient. A car to almost exclusively drive in the city. The engine would be similar to a motorcycle engine, possibly hybrid electric.

What is the government standard for tax mileage reinbursement?

So the questions are:
What do you want in an urban vehicle? and,
Does this concept sound good to you?

Answers:

Interstate freeways or scenic two-lane rural drives?

Very possibly. I disagree with your low-to -the -ground -idea. As someone who as driven in Manhattan both professionally and privately I know that the name of the game is vision . If I can see it , I can respond to it. If I can't see it , I'm in trouble.
Give me an urban vehicle that places the center of my eyes 5-6' off the ground ,then you may be able to sell me one.

Dallas area designated drivers?

great idea .i would go for it as i hate 2 wheelers ( always afraid of falling off )although the segway is a great invention also

What is the average amount of gas used by a normal american?

No is the answer I drive a Ka which struggles sometimes with the demands of a weekly shop & two people
I have seen articles on some similar concepts in the motoring press although none to date seems to have made much of an impact.
The all important factor nowadays is street cred - a three wheeler probably would have a little less than my Ka :-( do you remember the Sinclair C5 that seemed a great idea on paper but it reality could resemble a death trap alongside HGV's
Check the link below it looks more like a three wheeled bike to me ..

The problem with doing hybrid is that you then have to squeeze both gas and electric technology into a very small car. Why not all-electric? Electric vehicles work very well in city environments, and have unbeatable efficiency. A good example of what you may be trying to do is the $10,000 Zap Zebra:

*
Take this idea and double or triple the driving range by designing around a more modern li-ion battery technology, like the Altair batteries in this vehicle (which can charge in only 10 minutes):

Is there any proof that buying a certain company fuel will make your car last longer?

Yeah, it sounds like a great concept . And I'm sure many people will go for that for city driving. I have green tendencies and such, but I'd still opt for a 4-wheeler... So for me its still a Smart. Best of luck on the design concept!

Did you know you can save on gas by doing this..?

I wouldn't mind at all since I like small vehicles. The down side of the 3 wheeler is you have to have a motorcycle license to buy and drive it. When BMW built the Isetta it was a 3 wheeler, but when it came to the USA it had 4 wheels with the 2 rear ones being placed very close together so people wouldn't have to get a motorcycle license to drive or buy the car.
I would stay away from hybrids. The equipment would take up too much space and it would be extremely heavy.
For power you can use a small engine (diesel or gas), or pure electric.
For a purely urban vehicle I would expect extreme economy (70mpg + for engines, 100 miles between charges for electric...I commute 60 miles each day round trip, not including additional stops), fold down seats, trunk space for 6 paper sacks of groceries, and enough speed to safely accelerate onto 70mph highways and cruise with traffic.
