Question:
It has just been on the news that pay per mile will probably happen. They stopped several people in a town centre to tell them how much money they would need to pay for their current journey and it was extorinate - one family driving from Bristol to York would have to pay £46! I live in the midlands, the public transport is awful - my 15 minute drive to work takes over an hour on the bus!
I am sure some people will say we need to do this to save the environment - but we only live on a tiny island - can you see Mr Bush introducing a similar scheme to America - or China stopping their output of C02. Even if there wasn't a single person in the UK, global warming would still happen at practically the same rate. It is clearly just another tax to line the politicians pockets. Why don't they just ban 4x4s and high emitting cars instead. Make there a limit on how much a car can emit on all new models released. Eventually older cars would be phased out.
Answers:
Why are 4x4 drivers slow road hogs who are think they own the road?
I think it is a really awful idea invented by a 'seat polisher' with nothing better to do than to think of another way to get money out of the great British public. I'm not surprised at anything any more. Yesterday I heard that we all should be MADE to sing and read stories to our children! We even have a Social Exclusion minister for ***** sake. (four letter word in plural beginning with eff). The trouble is that we take everything that's thrown at us without protest. I wouldn't be surprised to see the issue of ration books soon where we will only be allowed a certain type and quantity of food each week (BECAUSE WE ARE ALL TOO FAT)! 'nuff said.Hoboken, NJ Commuters: What's the quickest way to commute to midtown Manhattan from Monroe St?
Its fine - we're all forced onto the train and the train system collapses. In the end we'll all be born and raised in the same town, never leave and we'll have even more inbreeding than we already have. Great Britain? Poor Britain.is it safe to get down and travel at manthralayam road station at 11 pm (with family)?

Hi tech solution and it would be fair, the heavy users pay more and light users pay little.Taxing the poor while the rich continue to drive their big 4x4s. I commute 60 miles a day to work and back and won't be able to afford to do so anymore. I live in a rural area where work, especially well paid work is scarce. Will the Governement pay my lost wages?
What are the policies about photographing subway systems and lightrail systems in the United States?
Stupid idea. Far better to limit the number of cars allowed to be registered to a family. I knew of one family with 6 cars!, nobody could park outside their own house because of them.
is there a ferry from Ronkankoma, NY area to Startford, CT area?
I do a commute by car of 70 miles a day (public transport would be two buses, train, tube and train again, don't think so as I'm not leaving house at 4am to get to work!) - 70 miles a day on motorway with a proposed charge of £1.31 a mile would me my whole salary would be spent on commuting!!Will my company relocate me or pay me extra? No I don't think so.
Can I afford to move into London? Definitely not!
Could become a benefit scrounger I suppose.
In case you haven't noticed there are far too many cars on the road. Demand exceeds supply. Therefore road pricing is inevitable. What you have now is chaos and it's getting worse. If it takes road pricing to stop people assuming that driving everywhere and anywhere at the time of their choosing is unsustainable then so be it.
Cars are a drug and most people are addicted. Cars govern where people live, what jobs they do, where they go shopping - people don't even think about any alternatives. Britain as a result is a noisy, ugly and inhuman place to live. It's not surprising that obesity is such a problem. People can't go down the road to the shops unless they take a ton of steel with them. It's ridiculous.
