I have my Driving Test next month and some people have said that the Examiners have to fail a certain amount of people each day. Thing is, the examiner can mark you down for faults whether you actually commit them or not!

If I am insured on one car, could I drive another car without breaking the law?

There must be some truth in it afterall if you contest the mistakes the examiner said you've made then who are the DSA going to believe- a learner or the test examiner?

Does collision insurance usually cover a cracked windshield caused by a pebble?

My instructor has said that the examiner wants you to pass so he has less paperwork to do!!

There is some truth to that I'm afraid. Your instructor is correct about the paperwork thing and its very possible that people are getting passes that should actually fail to keep the waiting list times down. I noticed that when the test centre has a waiting time over 7 weeks that people seem to pass easier than when its down to 2 or weeks. Currently a examiner is suing the DSA for trying to make him pass more pupils to get his test centre waiting time down. Examiners currently are working extra hours and missing holidays to reduce the waiting lists, so I doubt they fail people for the sake of it.

Its just old wives tales. The examiner doesn't have to fail anyone, they dont have any set amounts for passes or fails.

The reason they fail people is because they are rubbish. In my opinion they pass too many. It should be 3 strikes and you're out. In other words if you fail 3 times then you are walking for life. There are too many people out there that got their driving licence off the top of a cornflake packet.

Apparantly it is true, they can only pass a certain number. If u take ur test earlier in the week eg monday then in theory there is more chance of you passing cos they wont have hit there pass limit yet. i passed my test on a monday after failing on thursdays and fridays.

when i done my test the examiner spent the last 20 minutes reading the back of the paper that he marks. he didnt watch what i was doing for most of the time they just want to fill safe enough to sleep while yoy drive. just take it easy dont rush gear changes etc. ashford near staines is the best place to do test it has a high pass rate.its like when someone drives you around you dont panic on how they drive you just chat thats what they want

because new drivers are very nervous and make silly mistakes and then get more nervous when the person in the passenger seat turns white as a ghost and asks you to pull over in the nearest safe place or parking lot... but no they are not on a quota basis and will not fail you if you drive with both hands on the wheel (10 and 2 ) and use your turn signals and look in your rearview mirror and over your shoulder before changing lanes and please don't drive too slow because that is dangerous too... observe your signs and lights and you will have your new license.good luck

I passed mt test 3rd time but the second time I used my handbrake LOADS of times and at all the right times, but he still marked me down twice for not using it which was total c*ap! I think it's just a case of some examiners are stricter than others.

reason 1 is after test
friends dad driving test examiner said yes to so many pass fails.
2 failed first time and failed due to 2 small reasons
friend had test straight after mine failed on same 2 things and 7 more and passed.
3 failed motorbike test been riding for years had lessons to make a perfect run with no bad habits.rode in snow perfect.
When test finished laughed and said lets go again. but examiner said failed.At start of test examiner bitched at me for10 mins as was slightly late due to 20 mile ride on hired bike and had to wait for snow plough to clear road in rush hour.1 reason for fail was left indicator on for 10 seconds too long after leaving roundabout.

that does not make any sense. dont listen to that dumb talk. they want you to pass so that you can show how you handle the car and the road. having less paperwork has nothing to do with it. do you know how many tests they administer in a day? you might get someone who has given alot of tests on a particular day and who is very tire, that person might not car if they let one or two people slide and pass but that doesnt mean its law and that they have to let you pass because it would mean less paperwork. if you arent successful and you failed for whatever reason, it is not the instructors fault, you cant blame him or her. next time practice more.
