Can a car dealership charge you after the sale if they miscalculated the vehicle registration cost?

The coverages you need are going to vary from state to state. Call an independent insurance agent in your state and ask them for a quote. Tell them this is the first time you are getting insurance and would like someone to explain the coverages.

A really simple answer is:

What is 1/4 of sixteen?

You can have just liability which covers the damage you to do other people or property.
You can have full coverage which includes liability and it also includes comprehensive and collision coverage. Comprehensive coverages glass damage, vandalism, fire theft, falling objects, hitting an animal on the road, hail damage, etc.
Collision covers exactly what it says, collision with any object.

Where can I find which states require for vehicles to have front licence plates?

I hope this helps you out. Any insurance agent in your area will be happy to go into more details on what you need in your state. People always think they are dumb to call and ask these types of questions but if you don't know the answer the question isn't dumb.

Can a member of the public salvage an abandoned vehicle after the local authority's 7 days notice has expired

Thats like asking how big is a full glass of milk. Insurance companys have all kinds of packages. You have to shop and comare apples to apples. I personally switched, faxed the company my existing policy. told them to match the coverage. My windshiled got broken. Guess what I had 1000 deductible on my comprehensive coverage. The only way glass would be covered is if all the windows broke then i would pay the first thousand. On my old policy I had full glass coverage with no deductible. you really need to sit down and figure what you really need. If you drive your car through a 300G home will you be covered. If you hit a 60G mercedes will you be covered. If you run someone down will you be covered? The average collision on the car you bought at 5 mph is about 3000-4000. Most body body shops can cover part or all of a 500 deductable on a heavy collision. If the car is financed your finance company will also have some sort of coverage mininums they want. Most banks want no more the 500 deductible. I personally recommend 1000 because of these reasons. First 1000 theses days in parts and labor is not a heavy hit. Second 50% of the time the accident is not your fault. Third if you did have 1000 deductable on your car over the past 10 years how many times would have had to pay it all? If you a good driver and had no accidents in a while get a higher deductable If your name is Angela Crash Alotti get a lower deductible. If you car is more the 10 do not carry collision the car is not worth the premuim you will be paying unless its a high end exotic. Some how paying 500 a year to insure a 500 car does not make sound sence.
