I was in a one car accident where we skidded on an icy road and hit the guard rails on both sides. My neck hurts now, but I was told that if I go to the doctor I have to use my auto insurance rather than my health insurance. I'd much rather use my health insurance so that it doesn't go in my driving record...

Health insurance. If you are not claiming it on your auto insurance. You could jsut tell your doc. that you were in a vehicle that had to make a quick stop and now your neck hurts. You don't have to give the doc. anymore details than you are comfortable letting him know. Whiplash can be a serious injury, and lead to other complications down the road if you don't get it looked at. Friend of mine still gets lower neck and back pain from her whiplash. She went through helath insurance and goes to see a massage therapist to keep herself well.then don't tell them it was a result of an auto accident!

When you pay your car registration it covers you for any injury without any cost to you, you shouldn't have to put it through you own health insurance. Either way there will be a permanent record of the injury in a medical file. You could go to the doctor but not tell them how it was that you gained a sore neck but that wouldnt be helpful to the doctor. The insurance company isnt allowed to hold the fact that you incurred an injury during an accident against you and if you are claiming the cost of damage to your car anyway, they will probably put your premium up anyway so I would claim either through them or through your registration of your car (Thats the reason you pay it.)Not sure if that helps... :)

The medical on your auto insurance is PRIMARY in an auto accident. Once the auto medical limits are exhausted, it goes to your health insurance. Depending on your state, the auto insurance may not have a deductible & copayments that your health insurance does. Some states (like NJ) have a deductible & copayments on the PIP like your health insurance. Also, if there was a police report, your insurance will find out anyway when they pull your MVR on your next renewal. If you did damage to the guard rails, the town/county/state will go to your insurance to pay for the damage to the guard rail - if the damage is more than $1,000 or $1,500 - depending on your state - (which could easily be) it will be a chargeable accident to you. An accident surcharge is usually the same whether your company pays $1,500 or $10,000 or your policy limits. You mentioned "we" skidded - did you have a passenger? Were they injured?
