My husband and I separated last December. The registration document is in his name at my address as it has not been changed. If I am the policy holder, should I be the registered keeper as I am the main user? I use it 90% of the time and he has is 10% when he takes the children out. Would my insurance be invalid if I have an accident and should I get the registration document transferred to his new address? Do my insurers need to know that we've separated and he no longer lives with me? So many questions - sorry!!

Registered keeper status is really so that any speeding/parking tickets etc you get will be sent to you and not him.

Tell your insurers about the separation and ask for their advice. They must deal with this sort of thing all the timeAslong as your name is on the policy and you're covered for journeys i,e, commuting then there shouldn't be an issue
If you use the car most of the time then yes, it should be you who is the policy holder. It shouldn't affect anything which happens when you crash, but in many cases if they find out the main user is not the policy holder but a named driver, there can be fairly serious/expensive consequences. Speak to your insurance company - also the insurance cost can change depending on who the named drivers vs policy holders are, so you might save money!

wrong frequency. it doesn't matter to whom the auto is registered as far as the insurance is concerned. just appreciate the fact you have it & maybe offer to buy your ex's part...then get it registered in your name.who now owns the car. you insurance will be void if it is not kept at the address, under the conditions stated (ie in a garage/on a driveway) if you are a named driver on the policy it will still be vaid as long as the reg doc still holds the correct information
Your insurance would not be invalid. The reason for this is that the car is kept at the address it is insured at and as you are the main driver your insurance premium is rated on this already. A car can have the registration document in your husbands name as the owner of the car but this does not mean he has to be the main user. I own 2 cars both in my name but one is used purely by my partner and i am not on the insurance for that car at all but as the insurance is rated on the driver, location it is usually kept at and the use of the vehicle it makes no difference.

I agree, you're fine. BUT if you read your policy you will see something where you signed that says "I will tell you about things that happen that change my circumstances in any way" in lawyer talk. I would let them know about the separation to be safe, otherwise they could say you didn't live up to the terms of your policy and not cover you when they should. Vehicles are supossed to be insured and registared in the same name. Your insurers should know about the separation as it is techniqually a material change and unfortunately in could void your policy if somethng god forbid were to happen.
