If you use your car for a shuttle or taxi what kind of insurance is that and howmuch more is it per month?

I want to start a shuttle using my own car but I think thats a different type of insurance than I already have. I am wondering how much it will increase for what I want to do.

Any type of business that involves transporting people for a fee is going to require a commercial auto policy. Your personal auto policy specifically states that this is not covered. Each state is different on what the minimum liability limits are for the type of business. Also, some states and policies do not cover your auto for personal use if it is on a commercial policy so make sure if you are using it to run errands when your not working (IE. going to the store) to let your agent know, they should be able to endorse the policy so you have coverage when your not driving for work.

from what I know and understand, this should fall under the same insurance a pizza delivery driver has. normally only a few bucks more per month. its cause the vehilce is used for business, not just driving.

PS - just watch the tag (license plate) side...in Ohio, a vehicle used for biz like this, they charge you plate fee by the weight of the vehicle. Tags can get into the few hundred mark easy, yearly.

In our neck of the woods, insurance for a pizza driver is less than 10% higher than regular "driving to work" insurance. Insurance for a taxi is approximately 4 times as high. There is much greater liability exposure for a taxi. Tais drive longer distances for longer hours, and injured pizzas require a lot less medical treatment than injured people.
