Question:
Someone oversteered and crashed into the side of my uncle's Porsche 944 in the snow. It looks like they bent the frame, which causes 944s to be totalled 99% of the time. Book value on it is about $7000.
Car Insurance Question: Rear-Ended Today?
Please don't tell me I'm getting into trouble buying an old Porsche, as I already have a 944 and would like a parts car. Anybody with experience buying back wrecked cars, your advice or ballpark figures are welcome. Thanks

Does a ticket for not wearing your seat belt affect your car insurance in CA for a 20 year old?
Everyone here is on track, salvage vehicles usually sell at bargain prices. A Porsche will fetch a higher salvage amount than a Chevy Cavalier obviously but it's still going to be low. If you are willing to part with $1000 you should be able to get it back. But not you, your uncle will have to handle the deal or your behalf. You do not have a license to buy salvage vehicles so the only person who can buy it back is the registered owner in this case.Do you get a criminal record if you're caught without insurance/registration?
I can't tell you the amount but you probably won't have much say in it. They figure what it is worth to them and charge you the same. You will get a good deal as they get very little for salvage. What do people generally get paid out for personal injury for whiplash and head aches?
Depends on their estimate of residual value.I had hail damage on my car which exceeded the book value. They paid me the book value for damage and I paid $250. to retain the car. I am still driving it.
I have a suspended license in NY, there are fines/tickets that need to be paid.?
They will allow you to buy it back for salvage value, and they are the ones who will set the salvage value. Kind of circular, isn't it? Keep in mind unless you keep it out of sight in an enclosed shop or garage, the city may have an ordinance against non insured and unlicensed vehicles being parked at your house. Is it Possible for Foreigners to Get a UK Drivers License?
I was in a similar situation. insurance company totalled my car and valued it at $6000... I bought it back for $400...I rebuilt it.. drove it for 4 more years. and ended up selling it for a profit (tho this was and added bonus)...
Since you already know what you are getting in to and plan on using the Porsche as a parts cars.. I say go for it and negotiate for $300 - $600..
Local junkyards are only paying $200 to the insurance companies for these types of cars...
