Question:
Okay, this is a confusing. I haven't had my liscense for 6 months yet. But In december I got into a rather small accident, a little bump in the other car. My fault, but at the moment I was driving my car which had insurance but it was under my dad's name still, but it was going to expire three hours later that night and at the same time another insurance would take effect three hours later as well when it expired. So I had to use the older insurance with my dad's name on it. And this new insurance DID have my name on it. I had the new insurance card with me, a temporary card. But I had it and the officer saw it. The letter I got from bmv says I got into an accident with fault to have liability insurance with me. What should I do? Worth a hearing? How long will I get suspeneded if it does all go through?
Answers:
Driving a car 3000 miles away from where its registered?
It is worth a hearing, but be able to state your case in a clear concise, and chronologically correct manner. The people at the motor vehicle department have rules they must follow, but a hearing officer can be more personal and perhaps more understanding of your position. Oh yea, when you're at the hearing, don't be nervous or afraid. I can't guess about the suspension if any, but clearly understand that if you try to drive while suspended, and get caught, the time will be increased, or possibly you license could be revoked. What will be the best thing to do for my 17 year whose going away for college?
