Hi Susan,You did not say whether the person who hit you had insurance? If they did then it's pretty cut and dry. If there is enough damage get that persons insurance information and file a claim on there insurance if it's only minor maybe the person can just pay out of pocket?

You should check with your agent on this since there are so many different types of HO policies out there. You might also want to have the damage appraised before you file a claim. If the damage is not that bad and you can afford to pay out of pocket I would suggest that if for only to keep a claim off of your CLUE report.

Of course if this person is uninsured and refuses to make amends then in a worse case scenario you could try and go after them to pay the damages like a small claims law suit or something similar, but as most will tell you if that person who hit your vehicle is not responsible enough to carry at least liability insurance on there auto then most likely they will never honer any debt they have to you even if you have a judgment against them.
