I live in CA and I need to get a copy of my NC car title FAST. How can I have someone get it for me?

I have a friend in NC who can go get it for me but I need to know do I get a limited Power of attorney or do I get an affidavid? And what would the POA or affidavid say? What info or papers do I need to send my friend to make this happen? Does she need a copy of my nc registration and insurance info?

You will need to give Power of Attorney to your friend, the form will state that it is only for the transaction of a vehicle title, give description and VIN, date, and be sure it is notorized. You will also need to make a written statement, also notorized, stating that you have lost the title, that you need the title expediated because of title/registration issues in California. It would be best if you sent her your registration, just to make things easier, having documentation regarding the car can't hurt. You can pick up a Power of Attorney form either through the DMV, or a stationary store.

Call the NC DOT/DMV right now - ask them to overnight you a copy at your expense (probably will need a credit card), and ask very nicely. If they can, ask if a fax or PDF wil count--this could get it to you in minutes or seconds.

I used to live in Alabama and a credit union had my title there b/c I got the loan from them for my car. When I went to Texas I didnt have the title, but You can call the place where your title is and have them fax you a certified copy. They might be able to accept that...thats what I had to do in order to get my tags and registration for texas. But the court house kept the copy for their files...
