You can try, but you were driving illegally. We have people phone our office, give us the credit card, and we renew for them, so they are covered when they come in to pick up the paperwork. If that is not the case in your state and if the 18-wheeler was at fault which it sounds like it was then the 18-wheeler driver's insurance should pay for the damages to your vehicle.
