Van with no MOT?

Question:
My van havs no MOT or Tax but does have insurance. I need to get it MOT'd but how far am I allowd to go without Tax or an MOT. I could do with taking it out for a run to check if everything work properly but dont know the lega;ity of it.?

The law only allows you to drive (OR park) it on the road while on the way to a pre-booked MoT test. They consider this to be a "direct" route.
Makes sense to give it a road-test, but you can't, legally. The only way I can think of is to get a garage to do it on their trade plates.

You are in deep doodoo here, you are not allowed to have the van on the road either stationary or moving without insurance. Using it without a road fund licence or MOT would probably result in the insurance company saying the insurance is void. The only way you can sort this out is to engage a garage to do an MOT test and to collect the van either on trade plates or on tow or on a low loader. Once it is at the garage you should let them do any remedial work needed to get it up to standard. I don't have much sympathy over this one, you knew it needed the various bits of paper before you let them lapse, now you are crying into your beer because it will cost you money to get them... tough.
