Does your driver's license allow you to drive anywhere in your country?

Question:
I'm from Canada and you need to exchange your driver's license from one province to another when changing residency. The stupid part is that you need to show 2 pieces of id for the original driver's license and then again when you update for a different province. If you don't have a second piece of id like a valid passport or citizenship card, you can't get a driver's license, or insure a car!

Ok thanks, for those answers, but I have another question. Should I call on the other person.?

How stupid is that?!

Question about a car tittle, it says the car is " Exempt / Salvage" Non removeable??

Here in the US, you have to change it from state to state if you are changing residency, and we have the same 2 ID issue, but we also have Social Security cards, so to get a new ID, all I would have to do is show them my old DL, and my SS card, and I would be done. Now states also vary as to whether or not you need to take a test or not when switching residency.

ID requirements are being tightened up all over. It's a new world since 9/11. You have to be able to prove who you are. If you had id to get your original licence you should be able to produce id if you move to another province or state. The person who answered a US licence is good in all states, misread the question. A US or Canadian licence is good for visitors and temporary residents in all provinces or states, but you need a new licence if you move to another province or state.

Your Province's are like our States. We can drive anywhere in the U.S. but if we move from one state to another, we have to change as well. Yup, two forms of I.D. can be a pain, however, we are allowed to use our Social Security card as a form of I.D or a birth certificate. The stricter guidelines pretty much stem from 9-11.
