How can i gain access to a tag number on a persons vehicle?

I was hit from behind while in my car,the guy who hit me gave me all of his insurence info,and the correct address,& phone number,but forgot his drivers license,and I forgot to write the tag number,is there any way to access that information,without having to drive to the other side of town?

Call him if you have his phone #. Does he want to pay you directly for the damage he caused? If so, get some estimates from body shops so you will know how much to ask him for.
