Question:
To people of Northern Ireland, how do you insure your motor vehicles? Every time an insurance ad comes on TV it always says 'not available in Northern Ireland'
Answers:
The reason is nothing to do with riots, or the troubles.
It is actually because the court system is different from the rest of the UK, and has historically awarded higher injury compensation to accident victims, hence the cost of injury claims on motor insurance is higher. There have recently been moves to align the court system more closely with the rest of the UK, so the difference in premiums should start to reduce.
If someone hits a deer with there car can they take it home?
The reason that discalimer appears is that on UK Mainland policies there are certain conditions in relation to rioting. IN Northern Ireland rioting is much more common than the UK Mainland. The same companies insure cars, but with different policies, hence they need to put the disclaimer on.I live here and always think the same myself, just recently axa has arrived here,no companies want customers from northern ireland because of the troubles, here youre more lickly to have your car hijacked. We have insurance companies here but unfortunately we have to pay over the odds for our cover
