I have my car insurance in nyc on my name, I am 22 and its 3200 per year. I have been told that I can somehow have it in another state even though I dont live there. Do I need to open a mailbox there or how does it work? What will hapen if I get a traffic ticket here?
Where do I find out about the cheapest green slips for NSW car rego?
Thanks!
Answers:
You don't live in a mailbox in another state, you live in NYC. What you are thinking of trying is fraud. You cannot get insurance without a physical address, and, if you manage to fool someone, it won't be valid anyway. You come under the insurance laws of NY, and a broker in another state can sell you insurance, but only to your NY address and only if he is licenced to operate in NY.
How do I get a replacement title in the state of Missouri?
It works in reverse. If you move from a city (that you pay a lower price) to a city (that you have a higher price) you can keep the lower amount until renewal. There are many factors that determine the price of auto insurance which include your permanent place of residence. I am not saying it's right but you are being charged more for "choosing" to live in NYC.There is legislation in the works for people to get a return on their insurance premiums for not having an accident. ALLSTATE already has something similar.
If you try to circumvent the system to get lower priced insurance it could be a problem in court one day.
No, you can't legally do that. The policy must be issued where the vehicle is principally garaged. While the bill might go to a PO box, the carriers all demand a physical address for the vehicle.
Can CA dmv limit the # of ext. on temp. operating permits?
What you are proposing is insurance fraud. That's a felony with hard prison time if caught.
