Question:
I just got my emissions and safety test done in Missouri, my tags had expired so I had to get new tags with the correct date. However, I am moving to Cali due to a job so will have to register my car there. Will my emissions and safety be valid? They are only a couple weeks old.......can I just do a straight transfer of plates without much hassle?

GEICO (guy who hits me) tells me to go to Body Shop A for repairs, dealer says go to Body Shop B...?
You'll have to get a new emission test in California (in California they are called smog tests). The law says within 3 months of moving here. But if you move to a big city, most people wait until their out-of-states are about to expire without any hassle. If you do get hassled, the worse you will get is a "fix it" ticket. You need to get it fixed in 6 weeks or they will send you a ticket in the mail.More Questions & Answers ...
