a few years ago i bought this car from a lady and it came with no paperwork. so now im try to get tags for it but i do not have paperwork say'n that the car be longs to me. is there a way i can go by gettn paperwork for it... oh ya i do not know the lady i got the car from

go to your local court house and ask them how to file a abandon tittle. you will probaly have to run the car in the classifieds just to publize it and depening on your state in about a month they should be sending u a tittle for your car or truck just go talk to them at the court house. and next time you really should atleast get a bill of sale....

In NY you can go to the DMV and fill out a form that gives you a chance to say how you got the car and no paperwork and then you can register it but you cannot sell it. The paper goes to Albany where some paper pusher goes over it and when they make sure everything is cool they send you a title. I did it with a boat a few years ago.
