Question:
my dad is 35 years old, holding full licence for 16 years up until now.
now, what i am not quite sure is should i get joined insurance with him or should i have my car insurance under his policy alone.
which one would it be cheaper and best option for me?

P.S i know i am not going to to have my own policy. it will cost me a fortune for just paying car insurance. therefore i would not go with that option :)

If your Father is happy to include you as a 'named driver' the premium (in UK) would be far lower than if you obtained your own..Don't let your Dad down.
Remember, the story starts here and even at 66 years of age, I still treat every other driver as my equal but realise I will never be right all the time.
Your dad will have to get you covered under his policy as an "Additional insured". Congrats on passing your test. Drive Safely!

You need to get your name on a policy so that you can build up your no claims bonus's. It may be expensive but it's not going to get any cheaper waiting.

You should ask his agent. Insurance agents are usually pretty good about making sure you're paying as little as possible. They get paid based on the number of services you have, not how much you pay, so if they can get you to pay less for what you have, maybe you'll add on more services...What is the minimum type of insurance that a person can get if they cannot afford full coverage?
There are some insurance policies out now which allow a named driver on another person's insurance to accumulate no claims discount. congrats!! it may cost a fortune to start but you can at least have the chance to build up no claims bonuses if you dont crash! go on to moneysupermarket and check insurance prices. if your dad has you on his insurance make sure he has protected no claims as if you crash he will lose them if they are not protected!!I totalled my car and didnt have collision, what now...?

well done on passing, i passed at 18 and went straight onto my own insurance policy. Simply so i can build up my own no claims bonus. Congratulations!! When my children were able to drive, I was able to insure them through State Farm at a reasonable rate. A lot of insurance companies would not even insure them. If this option doesn't work, try being added as an additional drive in the household.
