Yes you can insure yourself to drive a car you don't own, Cars bought on finance don't belong to the registered keeper until final payment is made for example. But if you take out insurance with a named driver who is in fact the main user you are probably breaching the terms laid down by the insurance company. Be honest, be legal,be covered.Lost original RC of my car? How to proceed to get another copy? Do I need to lodge an FIR first?
I work at a brokers and generally you can only insure the vehicle if you are the registered owner and keeper. Insurance companies do not allow someone who is not the owner to insure the vehicle as in the event of claim that person would receive any payout. The only exception to this is for spouses and immediate family. Your can insure your tennagers car as long as you specify to your insurer that they are the legal owner and that will be fine. Incidentally if you haven't arranged cover then try Direct Line because on their policies the named driver accrues their own no claims bonus too which will help them later when insuring it themselves. How long do u have to change the renew ur registration to ur car?
It ain't that simple, or everyone would be doing it!You CAN insure a car owned by someone else (as a previous responder has quoted, a car owned by the finance company), but the insurers expect the registered keeper to be the insured.
And it's no good transferring it to your name and insuring it, they're wise to that and they'll find out, if anything happens, that you're not the principal user! Just watch 'em back away from responsibility at the slightest hint . . .
How do you reinstate your driver licence once it is revoked from the state of arizona?
Fess up to the insurers, do it properly and get child to start earning his/her no-claims bonus.
