CA DMV wants an SR22, how do I get it it if I don't own a car?

Question:
I want my license to work. As I understand it: 1.) I need an SR22 to get my license. 2.) I need auto insurance to get an SR22. 3.) I need a car to get auto insurance. I don't own a car and don't plan on owning one (although I may borrow one from time to time or drive a work vehicle).

An SR-22 is proof of financial responsibility. In other words, when you've messed up as a driver a bit, the state wants to make sure you're covered should you get in an accident. What you need to do is call an insurance co and ask for a "named non owner policy." An SR22 can be required when you don't own a car if you have been in mutliple at-fault losses involving DUIs or you were uninsured...basically, the state wants to make sure you have insurance no matter what because you are an exceptional risk.

If my home state (TN) does not require tags or titles for pop-up campers can I travel to other states?

It's got to go in this order:
1. License. You can't buy insurance as an unlicensed driver.
2. Buy insurance.
3. Get the SR-22 with your proof of insurance and present it to the DMV.

Car insurance that pays for your injuries when you're in an accident in your car is?

Lots of people wind up with this problem when they are young. Just suck it up and deal with the process, be a better driver, and always carry insurance. Accidents/incidents don't stay on your record forever...
